Carola
From a young age, Carola knew she wanted to become an interior architect. Even more so, she knew she wanted to study abroad—a path less traveled at the time. Rome, with its rich history and timeless architecture, became the natural choice.
After graduating in 1989, Carola returned to Helsinki and founded her own studio, Carola Rytsola Oy. From the start, her studio embraced projects of all scales—big and small, private and public—all approached with the same passion and attention to detail.
A lifelong advocate for craftsmanship, Carola has always believed that design is as much about the process as the outcome. Her close collaborations with artisans became a cornerstone of her work, ensuring that every creation reflected quality, precision, and care—values that now define Rytsola Collections.
The idea for Rytsola Collections was sparked through conversations with her son, Aksel. While living in Italy and France, he urged Carola to bring her designs to life on a larger scale. At first, the timing wasn’t right. But a few years later, his persistence reignited the spark. “This has to happen—if you don’t do it, I will,” he told her.
With that push, Rytsola Collections came to life, blending Carola’s lifelong dedication to timeless design with Aksel’s vision for the future.
Aksel
Growing up between Rome and Helsinki, Aksel lived at the crossroads of two design worlds.
Finland’s clean, purposeful minimalism and Italy’s bold, expressive artistry shaped not just how he works, but how he sees the world. This special duality defines his approach to design.
Rytsola Collections is much more than a brand for Aksel—it’s the realization of years of vision.
Watching Carola develop her practice while he studied and worked in Florence, Milan, and Paris inspired him, and he became determined to translate the family’s design philosophy into a new dimension.
Today, Aksel draws on his Finnish-Italian roots and global experiences to shape Rytsola Collections.
By understanding context, respecting history, and pushing boundaries, he strives to create original designs that stand the test of time.
